Grr Mondays: Medicare memes for the morning after Eagles–Rams

Sunday at the Linc: up 20–10 after three quarters, then a second half where nothing went right. Rams 24, Eagles 20, and 0-for-12 on third down. We can't fix the offense. We can help you not go 0-for-1 on your Medicare deadlines.

Grr Mondays
Grumpy retiree with coffee and a pile of mail on a rainy Monday. Grr Mondays. Grr fourth quarters.

At least a Medicare Advantage plan has a yearly out-of-pocket maximum. Sunday's fourth quarter did not.

Drake
Retiree waves off letting his plan auto-renew without reading the notice, and happily points at reading his Annual Notice of Change like a box score.

It shows what changes in January: premiums, copays, covered drugs. Takes ten minutes, less than a replay review.

The checkup
Doctor taking a retiree's blood pressure. Doctor: anything stressful lately? Me: 0-for-12 on third down.
Two buttons
Two buttons: sign up for Part B on time, or wait and see like a 10-point lead. A retiree sweats over the choice.

Only one of these comes with a penalty that lasts as long as you have Part B. (10% for each full year you could have signed up and didn't, unless you had coverage from current work.)

This is fine
Retiree calmly sipping tea in an avalanche of unopened mail while the other team celebrates on TV. 4th quarter. No drug coverage since I turned 65. This is fine.

Go 63 days or more without creditable drug coverage and a late penalty gets added to your Part D premium for good. The fix is quicker than a two-minute drill.

Expanding brain
Expanding brain: man coverage; zone coverage; two interceptions of Stafford; creditable coverage.

Credit where it's due, defense. And check whether your job's drug plan counts as creditable before you skip Part D.

Sunday, in Medicare terms
Football player stopped at midfield by a receptionist with a clipboard and velvet rope. The second-half offense was out of network and needed prior authorization to cross midfield.
No further questions
Retiree with a counselor. Counselor: any other questions? Is there a Special Enrollment Period for the 4th quarter?

The serious part, in one breath
